We would be able to recruit more volunteers increasing the community contact in all four areas, it would be amazing to bring more volunteers together to not only help us continue to meet our charity purpose but to help our adult volunteers overcome isolation and become part of a friendly team within the communities.
Thank you for taking time to visit our page. WAGS (Wiltshire, Avon, Gloucestershire & Somerset) Retired Police Dog Charity was established to provide financial assistance with expensive veterinary fees to ensure the Retired Police Dogs receive the best care and live a healthy, happy retirement. Police Dogs retire around the ages of 8 to 10 years old, it is virtually impossible to get pet insurance for them, especially when they retire with existing or ongoing conditions and medication needs. From the date the Police Dogs retire the ownership is transferred to their owner from the respective Police Forces. The Police Forces at this point cease to provide financial support to the dogs. WAGS raises vital funds to financially support the Retired Police Dogs to ensure any decisions are based only on the dogs welfare needs without the worry to the owners of where the finance will come from to save them. Some veterinary life saving surgeries can cost thousands of pounds.
WAGS is run by six voluntary trustees who ensure fundraising events continue to keep the donations coming in. During Covid19 WAGS has not been able to raise money from attending events and has relied upon raising funds via the internet. With the Covid19 restrictions now easing and events starting to take place again, WAGS is looking to start a new Volunteer Programme. WAGS will be seeking to recruit 20 new adult volunteers across the four areas above. Covid19 has caused some adults to become isolated in the community and we wish to build community relations by recruiting volunteers to help us raise the vital funds to financially support our Retired Police Dogs. To ensure our volunteers look professional at events whilst representing our charity we are seeking funds to purchase a pack of official WAGS clothing for each volunteer. The pack will consist of a T-Shirt, hat and waterproof coat to ensure volunteers comfort and health and safety at events they attend for us. We know that the UK is fast becoming a nation of dog lovers and we are confident the new volunteers we recruit will be a fantastic help in achieving our charity purpose and at the same time will be bringing communities together across the four areas. We are hopeful our new volunteers will make new friends easing any isolation and become life long supporters of our charity. We pride ourselves in being a very friendly supportive Team dedicated to dog welfare.
We are seeking your kind generosity to help us get our new volunteer programme off the ground. We are confident that this programme will definitely assist us in having the capability of attend many more events each year and carrying out collections outside of supermarkets with this new team of volunteers. This will be a fantastic support to our charity purpose and will help so many of our Retired Police Dogs live happy healthy lives.
